HAIR RECIPES

These are all appx. measurements, you'll have to tweek them to work for your individual needs.

1BBD'S CONDITIONER
1/4cp glycerin, almond oil, jojoba
1cp shea butter
4tbsp polysorbate 80

Heat all ingredients in a double boiler. Beat together then let cool. Apply to dry or freshly shampooed hair, cover with plastic cap and towel and let sit for "at least" 20 min.
I use 2 pans - 1 filled with boiling water and another on top with the ingredients, but I guess you could use the microwave too. My plastic cap is the exclusive "walmart bag" LOL

1BBD'S HAIR OIL
Use equal amounts of; almond oil, castor oil, avocado oil Great on damp hair, just before blow drying or flat ironing. A little goes a loong way.

1BBD'S BRAID SPRAY
I mix this in 12oz or larger spray bottle 1/2 - 1cp of each jojoba, olive oil 4 tbsp Polysorbate 80
Fill the rest of the bottle with Infusium 23 for permed hair. Spray on length of braids twice a day.

1BBD'S ITCHY STOP
I concocted this for my mother who has a dry scalp.
3 - 5 drops of each; Tea Tree oil, peppermint oil and thyme added to 2cps of olive oil. Massage into scalp every night until you get a tingle - no more itchy scalp..

MORE INGREDIENTS

JOJOBA OIL- Excellent moisturizer for the scalp moisturiser and helps to rebalance sebum.

LAVENDER OIL - Also a great antiseptic and antifungal.

OLIVE OIL - Improves the strength and elasticity of your hair. Great as a pre-poo conditioner. Slightly heat oil, apply to hair, apply plastic cap and towel, let sit for 30 minutes or more.

PEPPERMINT OIL - Increase circulation to the scalp.

POLYSORBATE 80 - Polysorbate 80 is used as an emulsifier in many foods and beauty products because it allows water to mix with oil. It help in hair regrowth because of its ability to trigger histamine release in the scalp, stimulating cell growth.
It also helps to remove dihydrotestosterone (DHT) from the scalp. Excessive levels of DHT are thought to cause hair loss. (male pattern baldness)

TEA TREE OIL - An antiseptic and antifungal. It cleanses the scalp and increases the circulation to the scalp.

THYME - Another antiseptic and antifungal.

Hair Basics

The following list will help you determine which shampoo and conditioner would work well with your hair.

SHAMPOO

PROTEIN - will contain protein from a variety of sources, such as wheat, soy & keratin. They will interlock with the outer cuticle of hair and help to keep it smooth.

MOISTURIZER - humectants are the key here. Humectants pull the moisture out of the air and help to lock the moisture in your hair. Sorbitol, propylene glycol, glycerol (glycerin) and castor oil are all examples of humectants.

CLARIFYING - This is your deepest cleanser. Having concentrated detrgents to remove styling products, waxy buildup and enviromental pollutants.

WARNING Clarifying shampoos have a high acid content and they should not be used any more than about once a month. These shampoos are good for swimmers

CONDITIONER

They have ingredients that help hair PH levels, such as panthenol, amino acids and proteins.

Reconstructive or Deep - These conditioners are protein based and designed to penetrate the cuticle of the hair, retain moisture, and make the hair shaft smoother therfore causing less breakage.

Instant - Mainly these flatten the cuticle of the hair with protein and oil so that the hair appears to shinier and thicker. They are a good way to protect against the sun and the blow dryer.

Leave In - I have found these to be a watered down version of the Instantand a few styling products. Read the labels one day and then water your own down - save yourself a dime or two.

Finally get to know your hair in it's natural state and then it's processed state (perm/relaxer) and try to determine what it needs and how it reacts not only to shampoo & conditioners but to your styles, your monthly cycles, and that broke toothed comb you've been using.

Throw that away right now :D and enjoy your hair right now in the state it's in - you'll absolutely love it later on.

Hair Regime

I have type 4a/b hair so I have to concentrate on adding moisture.

WEEKLY The night before I wash I apply Polysorbate 80 to the scalp. I wash once a week with Aphogee shampoo for damaged hair. Even though my hair isn't damaged I do use a relaxer and I have found that this shampoo keeps it strong. I also shampoo/condition with my hair in 6 braids. Parted in the middle 3 on each side.

I condition with Aphogee Intensive Keratin Reconstructor, though it's a 2-3 minute conditioner it is the best I have used. I also co-wash with this conditioner. Unbraid and dry.

After I have towel dried my hair (squeeze, don't rub)I section it off and do 2 strand twist (see link)

They say the average is 1/2" per month of hair growth I've never like being just average so I do all I can to be better than average and try to help bring others with me, so feel free to ask any questions. UPDATE - Stop taking

MTG & Polysorbate 80

APRIL 15, 2006 This month I can not honestly say I have kept up with my process. I just got lazy - no excuses. Maybe put MTG on for a week so far ... I have got to get back to it. Today's my sister birthday she would have been 46 today. Hmmm

The only fair in life comes in the fall and if you don't buy tickets to go you'll miss that little piece.

JANUARY 2006 ------ MTG
Well after 1 month of using MTG I can say that I am quite satisfied. Now I can't say it was the MTG alone because I actually used a couple of things in my experiment.

1. POLYSORBATE 80 with Biotin & Niacin you can pick it up at a GNC or online at Puritan's Pride. I like to get it from PP because they have 2 for 1 sales.

POLYSORBATE 80 (with Biotin and Niacin) is a form of Sorbitol and when combined with Oleic acid, loosens dry skin and emulsifies the waxy build-up on the scalp. Used before shampooing, POLYSORBATE 80 may be the answer to your prayers. I leave it on my scalp all week. Puritan's Pride http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=LbbzfUFA4Nk&offerid=116038.10000043&type=3&subid=0

2. MTG I massaged it in every night and as for the smell, it's gone by morning. It reminded me of the products my grandmother used (tar& sulphur)and her hair was kinky, coarse and booty length.

I'm trying to see if another generation can be bootlicious. I'm out.

FOLLOWING IS IN RESPONSE TO LETTERS WRITTEN TO THE COMPANY

Liz forwarded me your email regarding concerns on using Original M-T-G on humans. I understand and appreciate your request for further information regarding human use of Original M-T-G. Let me begin by giving you a bit of background on the product and company.

As you already know, Original M-T-G was originally formulated by a barber for use on psoriases, dandruff and dry skin on his customers. This was in the 1930’s and that product is essentially the same formula that we are currently using. He also started marketing this formula for use on skin problems for horses. When he sold the company, the new owners pursued the animal market, where it has remained.

During the 14 years that I have owned Shapley’s, I have spoken to several people who have used it successfully to treat skin problems on humans. Over the years, we have received reports of many others using it with no negative effects.

When I was first made aware that people were using it recently for growth purposes, I was interested to see what results they would obtain. As this has not been our intended market, Shapley’s has not performed any efficacy testing for human hair growth. What I am hearing and reading is that people are getting good growth from using Original M-T-G. Because of the results I have seen, I have begun to research and develop a product to test for human hair growth. This, of course, will take time and effort, and any feedback that we can receive will be helpful and appreciated in bringing the best product to the market.

Shapley’s is very conscientious of what we formulate for animal use and are recognized in the marketplace for using the finest quality ingredients. I can tell you that the current formulation doesn’t contain anything that is known to have detrimental effects on humans or animals, unless it is an allergic reaction. (The ingredients are petroleum distillates, sulfur, zinc sterate, cade oil and glycerine). As recommended and stated on the bottle, we always suggest performing a patch test for sensitivity on any new product before use. People have been using it on their animals for almost 70 years with unbelievable success. The reported negative reaction using Original M-T-G since I have owned the company is less than 1%.

As for the frequency of use, because we have not tested it, I can't recommend a routine. From the information I am receiving, people are using it anywhere from daily to weekly. My advice is that if they are using it frequently as start seeing any negative changes is to decrease the frequency of use.

I hope this helps to answer some of your concerns. Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or feedback. I will be happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge and ability.

ANOTHER LETTER AFTER I HAD BEEN USING IT FOR A MONTH

MY LETTER -

Hello,
I just had to write because I heard that your company was doing research in marketing MTG for human use. Well I have been using it for a month now and I just wanted you to see the results. I know it doesn't smell the greatest, but the proof is in the pudding. My edges had been damaged from a perm.
Now I must admit I was also using polysorbate80, but I had been using that for awhile with minimal results, but combined the results were great.
Hey maybe that's the combo you need?

Thank You

SHAPLEY'S RESPONSE -

Good Afternoon,

Thank you so much for the email and link to your photos. How impressive! I am so glad that you are getting results.

We have been receiving similar reports and are excited about the possibility of helping people with their hair growth. We are in the process of researching marketing it to the human population. Our four legged friends have been reaping the benefits of Original M-T-G for years. I am in the testing phase of Original M-T-G with a better aroma. I am sure it would make the process more pleasant.

If you would be so kind as to keep me updated on your progress, I would appreciate it. All the information we can get is very helpful.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I will answer it to the best of my ability.
