Famous photographers have distinctive styles; what can be regarded as style? Is it a tendency to oversaturate, posturize, is it careful use of shadows?

I don't know how to start this, and I suppose I'm trying to develop a style of drawing the viewer in, for the most part without success.

I'll try to think of something more to say as time progresses.
