Tag any photo with the word "featured" and it will show up in a hidden "My Featured media" section on your about me page... nice for showing off things you are currently working on!!! Gary 2007-12-30 11:55 This Journal entry was prepared by me for Roza http://members.fotki.com/rozalia421/about/following her question in my guestbook; "Gary, Here is another question: Is there a way of seeing all the choices for the frames, or do we have to pick one by one in the settings, and see what it looks like after it's done? Happy New Year! Roza " Anyone is welcome to survey the information contained here-in... If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below, and I will reply as timely as possible. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you would like to Easily View the Choices for Photo Frames, here is how!!! Photo Frames can be selected from two areas: A. In the "My Settings" area under "Albums" go to "Photo frame style: Choose the style of thumbnail and photo layout There are (as of this writing) 24 styles available, including none which means no frame. Note! Frames selected from the "My Settings" area will affect your entire account, however select albums can still be customized in it's own "Album Properties" see below. B. Or in "Album Properties of a selected album. Select an album to work with. Go to it's thumbnail view. Then go to the left menu and select "Album Properties" which will take you to "Editing Album Properties" window. In the lower left hand corner select "Advanced Properties" In the drop down window that appears, go to Photo frame style: and click on "show/hide". Now you can scroll through the Photo Frames and select the one you like for that album. Note! This feature is not available for managing your full account only for the album you are editing. However, using this feature here gives you a place to become familiar with the view of all the photo frames in a graphic scroll. Have Fun Selecting your New Photo Frames!!! Gary PS,,, Happy New Year 2008 2007-12-23 9:46 This Journal entry was prepared by me for Roza http://members.fotki.com/rozalia421/about/However, anyone is welcome to survey the information contained here-in... If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below, and I will reply as timely as possible. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you would like to post a photo into either a Guestbook or Journal Entry, here is how!!! (It might be easier if you open two windows or print this page...) 1. Decide on a photo to use and make sure that it is already uploaded to your Fotki. 2. Go to that photo and select "Share photo" under the photo subtitle and next to "add your comment". 3. Click on that to open the sharing menu. 4. In the sharing menu select "More sharing options" on the bottom left of that menu. 5. That will take you to a "Share Photo" page. 6. Select the size photo you want to copy the html for. Choices are Album Size or Thumbnail Size 7. Then go to the box named "Code for a Fotki Journal" directly below the photo and copy the string of html. 8. Paste that code into guestbook or journal entry box and the photo will appear. TIPS. 1. Does not work in photo comment boxes. 2. There are also other codes there that you can play around with and utilize in other places. 3. Any photo that you can get to the "sharing" code boxes can be utilized regardless of who's Fotki it is. In these cases these members have not disabled the sharing feature in their Account Settings. Of course, in this instance one should always seek permission to share first. Professional Etiquette always dictates that you should work with your own photos and or creations. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Remember Fotki Supports Various File Types!!! Including gif's '-))) as shown here!!! Wishing You "All the Best"!!! Gary G. Schempp Have Fun!!! Cheers!!! Gary PS... This entry can also be viewed on the front page of Fotki.com http://journals.fotki.com/fotkicom/fotkiblog/entry/rssrfktrgtb/ 2007-11-15 20:21 Fotki Staging is where things get Beta tested (sort of '-))) You can see possible new features in advance of others in this view. Nothing is guaranteed here. It's just a view of possiblities. Here is the latest as of this date: >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> For anyone that wants to see the staging view go here: http://public.staging.fotki.com:8080/ put your user name here I just took a look at the new layout feature of columns and rows. You can see it in your "My Settings" or if you go to "Album Properties" in left menu when you are in an album's thumbnail view. In that view click on "Advanced Properties" and go to Album page layout: The box will be selectable either Fixed or Auto. If you click on Fixed, then the old boxes of columns and rows shows up. The Auto gives you new options with as many as 120 thumbnails on a page. Nice for large albums or if you want fewer pages. Not sure when Fotki will make it live... But save your staging address somewhere for future use!!! If you haven't utilized your Fotki Journals Feature yet, now is a good time to start!!! Cheers!!! Gary 2006-06-08 19:09 Videos,,, click on your Video tab,,, click on add a video... you will get some info on googlevideo and www.youtube.com that one worked for me better... click on the youtube one and read alittle about how to upload a video,,, you have to sign up. It's free... When you have successfully uploaded a video, youtube will give you some html code in a box,,, that is what you copy and paste in the Fotki Box... All Fotki is doing is providing a front page for your videos that are already uploaded to one of these sites... Fotki is not storing videos like they do with photos... Got it... 2006-06-01 11:11 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi Peter!!! Just in from power-washing the office and I see your message (yes, my back is GREAT!!! - what an improvement over a couple of weeks ago!!!) I have MOBILITY!!! And it's phenominal!!! The simple answer to your question about how to get the price box to show next to your pictures is this: Open up an album so that you see the thumbnails. Go to left menu at bottom of list click on "Set Custom Prices" and make up the prices you want for the sizes that you want to offer. Longer answer; You do not need to fill out all the boxes, just the ones you want. Selling price box should now appear next to a picture when you open it to full view. PS,,, selling cart and set custom prices are two different things,,, so don't be confused there... By default everyones pictures are for sale by Fotki at the Fotki Prices until you change it. When you do this is what happens; your pictures are for sale by you. You get 85% of the sale and Fotki gets 15%. Fotki takes care of paying the printer and all the logistics and the buyer gets their prints and you get a check. PS... The buyer can be YOU. In which case you can set the prices as low as the system permits!!! Otherwise look around and come up with prices that you think will work for what you want to sell. Scott, Fred, and a host of others have pics for sale and the pricing is all over the place. You can also change the view of the price box by going to your "My Account" go to "Selling" in the right bottom side and click change. I chose the "Scroll Down" view so as not to junk up the screen with selling stuff as I don't want to look like a store. Let me know if this helps. I set my prices so that people that I meet and that I take pictures of, or with can have access to those prints without causing me to have to do all the work. Only sold a few so far for peanuts but it is an interesting concept!!! Good Luck... Let me know how you make out, or if you need more help... Gary PS,,, Awhile back a member was required to get Fotik's help to set the account up for the first time,,, I don't know if they changed that or not. Try what I said first,,, If no go contact customer service, but it should work!!! 2006-01-29 18:53 Ok,,, here's how it works (and I like the way they did it - very logical) 1. The logged-in author of a comment in someone else's journal can delete their own comment as long as there are no "replies" made to it.(That is, threads that are under it.) If there is a reply made to a comment then the "delete" option does not appear next to the reply or edit button in the main or first comment in the tree... And that is how it goes down the list. 2. The last reply can always be deleted by the logged-in author of that reply but not anyones above it. However, as those replies (or threads) are deleted from the end,,, the next reply shows the delete button again... and so on and so on, up the tree, until you reach the top or first original comment. Then with no replies to it under it,,, the delete button or option "re-appears" next to "reply" and "edit" If you have any questions, I will try to help!!! Just leave me a note in the comment box below!!! Cheers!!! Gary 2005-11-20 23:29 Edit in Journals now available!!! I've been asking and waiting for this feature for a long time!!! So happy to Get it finally!!! Yipppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Gary 2005-11-07 20:03 Go to your "My Account" settings... click on "General" settings, from the "Map coordinate (lat/lon) notation: box choose the second item of the 3 in the list. You should have chosen the Degrees-Minutes setting... Click on save changes... Photo location in either "Album Properties" or "Photo Properties" should now work!!! Like it says "please use the correct format"!!! That's why there was a problem with the longitude setting!!! Gary 2005-11-01 8:48 We got our new journal features!!! Yippppeeeeeeee!!! Re-arrange journals AND most important - Notification of new comments!!! Thanks Fotki Staff!!! Gary 2005-05-14 13:44 Hello Everyone!!! With the huge growth of Fotki there has been rapid and exponential growth of its placement (and subsequently, member’s placement) in the hierarchy of web searches. (Search engines do not search by alpha or numeric or chronologic entirely, but by frequency of hits) So the more that something is searched for the closer to the top of the list it gets. Lots of my key worded pictures show up near the top of a given search for that item... Fotki Rules!!! Also, I just did a Google search for GaryGS1 and got over 80 pages of related items on myself (wow), mostly Fotki related. Try one on your own name and then one your screen name... You will be amazed... "Caution” search not recommended for the faint-hearted. Seeing a search on yourself might be a wake up call (or you may like what you see)!!! Cheers!!! Gary 2005-05-07 8:02 Dear Fotki Mates!!! I figured out how to add, subtract or modify the menu boxes up top of the fotki default co-branded pages easily... If you want to customize you co-branded menu tabs alittle (like having one to go back to your personal website, add your e-mail address or delete something if you don't use it) let me know!!! We can knock it out in a heartbeat!!! Or,,, If you want to do it on your own: 1. Go to your "My Account" 2. Select "Co-Branding" 3. In your default co-branding html you will see halfway down strings of html for the tabs and associated links. This is where you can change, re-arrange, add, delete or otherwise edit your menu tabs... Have fun!!! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you need help just ask!!! Best to leave a message in the guestbook since there is still not a notification of new journal comments... Good luck, Gary 2005-01-23 9:42 You put a lot of effort into selecting, editing, posting, voting, and conversation into your Fotki photo contest. Why not dedicate an album to that effort so you and others can refer to it!!! Here is a very simple solution. (First print this page so you can easily refer to it while you are on another page.) 1. Go to the photo contest page. http://contests.fotki.com/ by clicking Here 2. Go to "My Entries" on the left menu. You must be logged in, of course. 3. Find the pictures of your contest and put them into an album. Arrange the entry pictures how you like them using the "arrange photo" tool in left menu while in your album. Select manual arrange option to arrange your entries the way you want them. 4. Now, go back to the Entry Page. Select one of your entries to start with and select "View Comments" /// That is where the contest information will be found that you will want to copy and paste into your photo picture!!! 5. The contest page for that photo will show. Select any or all of the text that you want to copy and paste into your Picture description of the corresponding picture in your new album. (Just select edit in the picture thumbnail and then you can paste the text you copied there. You may then want to go back and copy just the title of the picture for installing into the title bar of the picture... Here is a small example: (Click on the thumbnail picture of Goldie to go to the album. Each thumbnail will have a title. Click on a thumbnail to enlarge and then the description will show too /// Good Luck,,, Let me know if you need any more help with this... Gary [photo id=skqktwwgttkbtg link=custom href= http://public.fotki.com/GaryGS1/month_by_month/photo_contests/] 2005-01-16 17:55 Hi Gary, About your question on backing up the fotki site.... Backing up Fotki is not the right expression I am afraid. You can only backup, say download, the pictures themselves, no comments and no guestbook!!!! 1.You'd have to use an FTP program, like WS_FTP. 2.Install that, and log onto the fotki server using the username and password you acquired from fotki. 3.You should then be able to see your folders on the right side of the window. The folders on the left are those on your computer. 4.On this left side, go to the folder you want the fotki folders to be placed in. 5.Then select all folders on the right side (i.e. the fotki server) and click the 'download' button (probably a button with an arrow pointing to the left) This is how I do it, I burn a rewritable DVD with my pictures every month...I have two, the latest one and the one before that! I hope this is of any use...??? I know this os not what you really want (no guesbook, no comments) but at least your pictures are safe! Thanks viviane!!! 2004-12-15 18:10 Co-Branding is way different than the Appearance Feature of Color Schemes that we have all been playing around with. Co-Branding allows you to integrate your Fotki pages into your "own" seperate website if you have one. However, now with the new feature of "Skins" for co-branded pages you may find a default that you like (there is currently 7 to choose from and you can customize any of those) It can get complicated. Your url is different!!! Fotki links will go to fotki pages,,, to use co-branded pages someone would have to already know your "new" URL or click on a link you made somewhere!!! Here is some helpfull information... Help file in fotki = Click Here A friend (Raphael's info on co-branding Click Here And how cool co-branding can be as shown on Raphael's pages Click Here Let me know if this helps!!! Gary 2004-12-14 22:02 All you gotta do is Ask!!! Cheers!!! Gary 2004-12-13 11:06 Go to your account settings and go to Co-Branding... Pick out a Skin!!! Your page will be http://your login.fotki.com/ (Mine is http://garygs1.fotki.com/Important!!! This is different than New Color Schemes!!! It's co-branding,,, you may or may not want to do that??? Gary 2004-12-11 19:11 The answer is in the first comment. Let me know if you need more help... Good Luck!!! Gary | | |
