Long road to healthy hair

Well I've only fairly recently discovered the secrets of healthy hair..and it's been rough. It takes time and money to maintain your tresses, and those are two things I'm very short on. I have been doing what I can though..deep conditioning, limiting heat etc..and I do see the benefits. My hair is growing with proper care and the aid of my sulfur mix..which i need to use regularly and not whenever as I've been doing lately. Seems like as soon as I make progress there is always a setback. I went to a beauty school that I have been to before and got a relaxer and wrap. The stylist asked if she could clip my dead ends and I was very reluctant..however she said they weigh the hair down and the wrap would not come out right. Since it's been a very long time since my last trimming I let her do it. She says she needed to cut off 1/2 inch I always thought you only cut 1/4 or 1/8...I totally regret saying yes. It seems like she cut one section of my hair shorter than the rest in the back. It doesn't look horrible but I don't remember my hair being like that before. I'm gonna try to baby the area and hope it catches up. I didn't like my overall experience with this particular person anyway..I had a bad vibe when i saw her but I didn't wanna be rude. It won't happen again. I'm tired of being set back. My hair is still cute though. Pics coming soon.

Growing pains

Are you growing impatient with your hair? Does it seem like your progress is moving at a snail's pace? Perform an honest self evaluation of your haircare practices.

* Have you gotten lazy?
* Are you maintaining the appropriate balance between moisture/protein?
* Are you experiencing breakage? This can interfere with retention
* Do you deep condition regularly?
* Are you low or high manipulation?
* Are you using the right hair tools?
* Do you massage your scalp?
* Do you take special care of your ends?
* Do you drink enough water and eat a balanced diet?
* Are you scissor happy?
* Do you follow the dos and don'ts of healthy haircare?

Examine your routine and see if you need to make improvements in any of these areas. Rest assured that your hair is growing. If you are caring for it's needs properly you should be retaining length. Keep a journal and note how your hair behaves on a regular basis. How does it react to certain products? If you use alot of them you may need to test one at a time to see which, if any are giving you trouble.

Take pictures on at least a monthly basis and compare your hair's health and growth over time. When you make significant progress look back at old pictures and see how far you've come. Don't put expectations on your hair based on other people's progress. We are all individuals. Your hair is unique to you. Watch Youtube videos for tips and encouragement. Ask people that have already achieved your goal how they got there. Don't give up. Once you reach the end of your path, the journey will have been worth it.
