| | *Reniece - Weave Specialist*'s Journals Recent Comments Weave Maintenance: I didn't keep the weaves in longer than 4 to 6 weeks at a time, since I was doing them myself. I oiled/moisturized my hair and scalp really good atleast twice per week. I shampooed my hair under the weave about every two weeks. (You can shampoo it more frequently if you need to). I used Nexxus shampoos and conditioners at the time. Nexxus has so many different product lines that cater to a variety of hair needs. I specifically like the VitaTress line.
Trimming: When I first started my "growth challenge" I trimmed my hair alot because my ends were thin, brittle, and broken off. The trimming really helped to thicken out my hair (especially since I hardly ever got my ends trimmed before).
Relaxers: I relaxed my hair every 5 to 7 months. I would take a 6-week break from wearing weaves after getting a relaxer. I never put a sewn-in weave over freshly relaxed hair because my hair was too weak to handle the cornrows and tracks at that time. I still recommend that full weaves not be put in immediately following a relaxer. --Adding a few tracks if you need to is fine though.
Vitamins: I took Fingerprinted Horsetail vitamins from GNC for a few months at the beginning of the challenge. I noticed a positive difference in my hair; the new growth was really thick and strong, and my hair seemed to grew faster too. I also took Hair Formula 37 for a couple of months and it worked okay, but it seemed that I visually saw more significant results with the Fingerprinted Horsetail.
Current Regimen: Now that my hair is long, I currently don't wear weaves. I use Vitapointe to moisturize the ends of my hair and I only use curling irons once a week. I get relaxers every 3 months and I trim as needed. I wrap my hair up every single night using my simple satin scarf method.
Current Products: I like to try out different products every once in a while.
I currently like: DHD H20 Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner (this product is excellent and it imparts so much moisture into the hair! Great detangler too) BBD Triple Slip Shampoo (great slip! detangles well) BBD Stretch (multi-use) Growth Creme (great to use as a conditioner) Silk2 Longer & Stronger Shampoo (smells like apple juice and really gets the hair clean) Silk2 Moistec Conditioner. (gives great slip and it's a good detangler) | | |
