| | Atemeus (I'm coming back in April 10!)'s Journals Recent Comments I try to wash my hair every 6-10 days and take a multivitamin every day.

-Keracare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo - <once a month> Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo

- <every 6-8 wks> Aphoghee Treatment for Damaged Hair & ORS Replenishing
******After Wash*****
- airdry to 80% then moisturize w/ Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1 and seal w/ Castor Oil; cross wrap & tie w/ satin scarf -rollerset w/water & heat protectant; sit under dryer 35min-1hr; add some moisture; saran wrap treatment; cross wrap & tie w/ satin scarf
-sometimes I flatiron after the rollerset
*****Daily Moisturizing*****
- Hawaiian Silky 14 n 1 & seal w/castor oil; cross wrap & tie w/ satin scarf

- <if needed> Profective Healthy Ends & Breakfree & seal w/castor oil; crosswrap & tie w/ satin scarf
*****Protective Styles*****
- I use various combs to keep my hair up; every now and again I'll use an elastic band
- I'm trying to use more satin/silk scarves instead of the elastic headbands I'm addicted to! I still haven't established my go to product list because I'm still learning but here's my improved ever evolving routine: ________________________WASHING:__________________________
Weekly Wash
-Prepoo with a mix of Suave Tropical Coconut and olive oil & cover w/plastic cap 45min-1 hr and sit under dryer w/low setting for 10-15min
-Wash with Pantene Pro-V R&N (because I still have some and still haven't gone to get the Keracare)
-Deep Condition (ORS Replenishing Pak) & cover w/plastic cap and sit under dryer 15-20 min
Rollerset/Saran Wrap
-Rollerset (Lottabody, Water, very little S-Curl or Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1) use spray bottle w/that concoction; i don't use a lot of Lottabody b/c I don't want my hair to be hard. After I take the rollers out, I use Profectiv Breakfree and Healthy Ends and seal with Castor Oil.
-Saran Wrap: after my hair is completely dry I saran wrap and sit under the dryer for another 10 mins
Airdry
-When about half dry, I use my moisturizer on newgrowth/scalp & ends
-When totally dry I usually wrap or cross wrap and tie down w/scarf
Conditioner Wash
-I plan to get back into working out regularly so I expect to do conditioner washes I guess just about everyday because I sweat a lot in my head. When I co-wash, I’ve been airdrying

-"Nonstretching" (usually up to month after retouch): So I've been trying a few moisturizing products with suggestions from LHCF. I've tried S-Curl, Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1, Profectiv Break Free & Healthy Ends, and most recently Cantu Shea Butter Leave In. I like to use Profectiv, but not everyday. I am really liking the Cantu and I think I'll stick with it. I seal my ends with Castor Oil.
-Stretching (up until next retouch): I try to moisturize hair/ends once or twice per day; I think I will try the Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1 because it has a thicker consistency than S-Curl. I will also seal with Castor Oil.

Protective Styles:
- I just bought a half wig that I plan to wear throughout the winter; I don’t really bun because my hair is so short; instead, I use small combs or banana clips to keep my hair off of my clothes or sometimes to hide the ends
At Night:
-I wrap or cross wrap with a satin scarf

Weekly Wash
-Prepoo (Suave Mango Peach) & cover w/plastic cap 10-20min or I might sit under dryer w/low setting for 10-15 -Wash (Pantene Pro-V R&N) -Condition (Pantene Pro-V R&N) & cover w/plastic cap 5 min -Deep Condition (ORS Replenishing Pak) & cover w/plastic cap and sit under dryer 15-20 min

-"Nonstretching" (usually up to month after retouch): I was moisturizing my newgrowth/scalp & ends with Mizani H2O Rose Conditioning Hairdress and seal ends with shea butter
-Stretching (up until next retouch): I try to moisturize hair/ends once or twice per day; I've been using S-Curl on the new growth and ends & sealing the ends w/shea butter; I have to say the S-Curl on the newgrowth has been amazing; in a 2-week period my new growth got really soft and tightly curled not the miserable dry, tumbleweed mass as before!

****************** PRODUCTS I WANT TO TRY ************
(10/07): I'm still trying to decide which haircare line I want to try after I use up all of my Pantene Pro-V R&N. I don't think I'll really switch until early 2008. I'm pretty sure I'm going to try the Keracare line. Also I need more protein. The Pantene shampoo has some protein in it, but I realize that just doing the Aphogee Treatment for Damaged Hair every six weeks isn't enough for my hair I want to incorporate more protein.
- Lacio Lacio: for rollersetting; I haven't found it in St. Louis yet, but then again I haven't really been looking; everyone raves about it; I keep using my Lottabody b/c I still have it
-Aphogee Keratin 2 minute Reconstructor: I think I'll starting using this during my weekly wash to replace the Pantene Pro-V R&N conditioner b/c I realize when I use this and the ORS Replenishing Pak I'm doing double moisture. I notice after a few weeks I still have shedding and maybe some breakage
-Homemade Prepoos: Right now I use Suave Mango & Peach even though I hear Suave Humectant is supposed to be really good; but I see people adding honey and other things to oils like EVOO on dry hair; I'd like to make my own concoctions but I need to read up a little more!
-Other Oils Besides Shea Butter: I started using the raw shea butter because mom always has it but I like to find out about other oils & essential oils
-Clarifying Shampoo: Since I'm using the S-Curl & doing Conditioner Washes I need to start clarifying except I don't really know when I need to. Anyway, I think I'll try Suave's ****ORS Replenishing Pak****
I love this stuff! It's smells so good like citrus. I use for every weekly wash and my hair turns out so soft and moisturized. I love it!!!!
****S-Curl on New Growth/Ends****
This works very well for me while stretching. I wish I could take pics of how much better my new growth looks after using S-Curl for just 2 weeks. My new growth is much more manageable and softer and more moisturized. I am loving the effects. I dilute with water in another water bottle. It cuts down on the smell.
****Saran Wrap****
The first time I tried this, thanks to Macherieamour's video tutorial, I was AMAZED! At the time I was 4 weeks post and wasn't really taking care of my hair. And of course Macherie's hair is gorgeous, so I was really skeptical about how my hair would turn out. But, it turned out really nice. Seriously- really, really nice. My hair swung and swayed and I was really overjoyed. I like to do it, but it takes a whole lot of effort to do my weekly routine and rollerset and saran wrap since I'm not an old pro at it yet.
***Prepooing****
To be honest I can't really say I feel much of a difference after I rinse the prepoo out. Right now I use Suave Mango Peach, but would like to try more natural prepoos or at least Suave Humectant. I think the effect is proven in the overall condition of my hair though. I will continue to prepoo.
****Deep Conditioning on Dry Hair****
I was on LHCF and responded to a thread about deep conditioning on dry hair. I heard before that deep conditioning works better on damp/wet hair because it can absorb the moisture better. However, I'll try the deep conditioning on dry hair for my next weekly wash and see how I like it. |
