| | Brittany's Journals Recent Comments I decided to track my growth.
Dec. 5 Swore I cut my hair to 7 inches. It is what I put on my tracking calendar. The only reason I question it is because of my Dec 15th results.
Dec 15 I did another cut of about 1/2 all around. When I measured again the length was 7.5 inches (5 or 6 in the back). This didn't add up to me. So, I figured maybe I cut to 7.5 inches on the 5th. But, that still would be a lot of growth for 10days either way. The only thing that I did different during that time was oiliing my scalp. I haven't done it in years. So, maybe it was the massageing action. I believe I did it twice in the 10 day period. I used some grease one day and then castor oil another day. I am not really sure about these results.
Dec. 24 - 8 all around, back 5 to 6 ( just a guess I haven't measured that area). I started my Ayveda routine on the 20th. I did an o' so bushy roller set and measured today. I have also been doing scalp massages with coconut oil 4 or 5 times a week. Still not sure about the results. With this routine I am hoping to get 9 inches by mid Jan. So, I finally decided to have some patience and really start to listen to what my hair was telling me instead of listening to what others we doing and trying to imitate them and their routines.
1. I learned my hair HATES shampoo. I had heard of CO washing but I never wanted to try it because I thought my hair would not get clean and that the conditioner would leave build up. Boy, I was wrong. I discovered this by just listening to my hair. I let 3 days go by without washing my hair. When I first washed I applied oil. But, once it was dry my hair just felt oily and dry. After the wash day, it was dry by the end of the day so I sprits with water and applied oil. When I woke up it was still dry so I did the same but put a lot of oil in. I then let it sit in an updo for 3 days. On the 3rd, it was finally soft w/o me adding extra oil or water but it was oily. I came to the conclusion that it took 3 days for my hair to get back to normal. When I was relaxed it would do the same thing and that is why I waited so long between washes. When I was truly natural I would rewet my hair.
Anyway, so I am going to stay away for the poo (as we call it). I don't know if I'll do conditioning washes. I am doing the shikakhai oil and powder thing. I'll see if that works to clean my hair with out stripping it. I heard some people buying a shikakhai shampoo bar. I made try that if I don't like just the oil and powder.
2. Work in sections. I save so much product. I used to try and apply product in one large section. That was wrong. You think I would know this already but I was being lazy. I have ultra thick hair and there is no way I can have long hair and not do this.
Well, I did a corrective touch up and I love my hair. The consistancy makes my curls appear automatically. I did a small trim too. Now, I plan to keeps it as moisturized as possible and no trims for the rest of the year or at least until May. But, I think I'll do the next touch up in Feb. | | |
