Been awhile

I just re-read my old entries and looked at the dates. I didn't realize so much time had passed since I left off. I didn't even finish the story and if ya were paying attention then sorry about that. I have to be honest, I was on a roll and the roll was lost hah! I am here to tell ya that things have grown so much larger since then. DPMCC has around 500-600 members today. This club has grown a lot and has gained a lot of recognition over the last few years. Sound like I am braggin?....sure, why not? I have busted buns and as of late, Marc and Mj are still co-owners....both of which are busting their buns to keep the place tidy!
Let's see what has happened? Drastic Plastics has it's own NNL show in Omaha, Nebraska every February, we have show coverage in Model Cars Magazine via *my work*, we have the largest model kit instructions archive on the planet and much more! Not only has DPMCC built a monster status in those fields, but my personal interests have been added to thedpmcc.com and that also has become a monster! Traditional Rod and Kustom in scale was born August 31,2007 and in the short time it's been around there are 880 members today! The forum remains the largest and most active scale modeling forum across proboards.com. I can't begin to describe the greatness that has come from this club. If it was not for DPMCC and it's members, I don't know where I would be or what I would be doing. I want to thank everyone for their support, it's my passion to continue forth with greater things in this hobby!
Well that is all for now, I just thought a small update would be nice. If you are interested in becoming a Gold member, check our site for more info. www.thedpmcc.com

In the beginning

At first, this club idea was way up in the air. Myself (Bob Black) and Mark Ward had been talking alot back and forth over yahoo! messenger. We became quite good friends and we both were members of "realmodelbuilders" yahoo! owned by Jeff Carter and his brother. During that time, i was pretty much a "new fish" on yahoo! groups. I was originally on a couple of MSN groups until they started changing things and charging. Jeff had nightly chats on the group site and it was pretty cool even though yahoo! dealt fits for everyone. Without getting into too much detail, a member of the group was causing alot of problems with trades and such. It was so bad that myself and a few others left the group to avoid any more contact with the said person. Now that we were "outsiders", we still felt the need for a group.
Mark Ward and I passed ideas back and forth about what to do. He suggested i start a group and he would join it. I said, "OKAY"....
Now previously in Jeff's group he was trying to get help from members to rename his group and several good names came up, but nothing Jeff really could decide on. One of the names, just so happened to be DRASTIC PLASTICS and guess who suggested the name??? Myself , (Bob Black)!! Now i new the name had a good ring to it, but nobody could make up their minds and my name kinda got ignored.

Building the Group

The very same name i suggested i used for this club, (DRASTIC PLASTICS MODEL CAR CLUB). At first i had no clue what to do while setting it up, so it was a little slow. I invited members that i knew from MCL and Realmodelbuilders to join and we started out with about 15 members. Back then it was kind of a big deal to me if we got a couple of posts in the same day. Our first month there were 15 posts made. I think the reason for this was because we continued to hold nightly chats in the group site chat room like Jeff did, so nobody was posting to the rest of the group about anything. Being a bit concerned that the other members might get bored and leave, myself and Marc Heitkamp discussed the possibilites and agreed that we should post on the group about what was talked about in the chats. One thing led to another and more people started joining. Most of what has happened during those first few months is a blur to me now.
Some of the first people i met on yahoo! became members and still remain today! Those very same members have become my best friends, shoulders to lean on and most trusted comrads. More on this in "What makes DPMCC what it is today"

What makes DPMCC what it is today

On Tuesday , September 13th, 2005 Drastic Plastics is better than the day before and the day before is better than the preceding date.
Everyday Drastic Plastics becomes larger, stronger and more independantly running as more people participate and make the "wheels turn".
I remember back when we first started and Bruce Owen joined which was a member at Jeff's group prior. Everyone perked up when he came to chat and we got to talk to a "big cheese". You see most of us are just average builders and when we first started to unite, none of us really had any more skills than each other. I will say that we certainly all had skills that complimented our work and we did learn from each other as days passed by.
Today , and this amazes me, but today the same individuals that were asking for tips and learning from the "big cheese" are the same people that are handing alot of the tips out to the newer guys and gals of our club. We are all in this together and when something is shared, it spreads like wildfire! More on this in " Continued...DPMCC today"

Continued...DPMCC today

A few months ago we had a fellow member pass away whom was very involved in nightly chats and was working on building us our own website. His name was Jason otherwise known as mrfloyded.
When this happened, it sure made alot of people sad and he will be missed. Aside of missing him , it made me think. I thought "what will happen to DPMCC if i get killed in a car crash tomorrow?" With these thoughts in mind, i asked two of my closest and long time members to make a decision between themselves which one wanted to be co-owner? Well they both didn't know what to say, so i made them BOTH owners LOL! I am very glad and confident that if anything happens to me or if something happens to one of them, one of them or both of them will take care of the place. Their names are Mike "MJ" Hundahl and Marc Heitkamp. More on this in "It is YOUR club"
