I, also, looked for a place to change that setting. So far, I have not found it either.

        Hi Pierce!!!

Also, selected my yahoo email but it does not show in the "About Me" page... my website shows but email does not??? Things are changing faster than I can keep up with them,,, I am already delerious,,, please don't put me over the edge '-) Gary

Also,,, as mentioned many times before by other members as well, please upgrade the help files as you add, change or otherwise modify Fotki features... So many of the help files are not accurate anymore and new features are not explained or referred to anywhere. Thanks Gary

The "free speech" angle is very good. However, there is some "off color" stuff (more or less harmless) and there is downright pornography. It doesn't take deep thought to recognize it. And i say, "cut it out."
There a a million choices if you want porno. The quality of this entire web site says "get rid of it. There are too many customer for the viewer to find and block questionable material. I wouldn't want my daughter (I don't have one) looking over my shoulder as I surfed the Fotki Home feature.

    Iggy or anyone:

It's been 3 weeks now, and there is still a problem with uploading. Whenever I try uploading a batch of photos, many of the photos need several "retries" in order to upload successfully. In some cases, the upload fails completely.

This exact problem happened at least 4 times last year. In all four cases, I reported the problem to Fotki's customer serive. And in all four cases, the problem was easily fixed within 24 - 48 hours. I do not understand why it is taking so long this time. I am not getting any information form customer service. I even tried calling the toll-free number twice last week, but there was no answer and no way to leave a message :o(

The problem is not with my computer: I've tried batch uploading with several different computers (all with high-speed internet access), and the same problem happens.

The problem is not with my account: I've tried uploading photos with my premium account and also a completely different free account, and the same problem happens. Also, I have heard from SEVERAL other Fotki members that they are experiencing the same problem.

The problem is not with ActiveX: ActiveX is definitely my batch upload tool of choice, but I've tried using other batch uploading tools such as Java, and the same problem occurs.

The problem is not with my photos: I've tried upload a variety of different photos in different sizes, and the problem still occurs. Also, the problem is occurring at random - it is not the same photos that have the problem uploading.

This problem started happening right after the new version of Fotki was released on January 30.

Can ANYONE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me some information regarding the status of this problem? It has been 3 weeks since I have uploaded successfully and I am going through withdrawl :o(

I really think the basic functionalities of the website should be a priority, and should be addressed as soon as possible.

      Scooby's Place,
How big are your photos that you are having trouble uploading?

      • Scooby's Place Premium user United States wrote: Monday, February 27, 2006 7:04 PM

        Thank you for responding Dmitri!

I have tried uploading a variety of photos in a variety of sizes ranging from 40K to 3Mb, and the same problem occurs. The size of the photo does not appear to be an issue.

I originally reported this problem 3 weeks ago (inquiry #19852). If you read the inquiry, you can see all the troubleshooting I've done and informtation I've provided. As requested, I even copied the upload logs from both Java and ActiveX to provide you with specific error messages.

Can you give me any information on the status of this problem?

Hey, you are not alone :) I have opened the ticket on that too.
A few observations and workaround ideas while we wait for convenient ways to upload. Of all the upload methods that I've tried what finally (magik!) worked was via smart ftp client, and only when file size checks and errors are skipped (by default settings in smart ftp it would still loop). And yep, everything other way, the upload loops. It appears when it checks the file size of an uploaded file, the number comes back wrong, so a new (and unnecessary) attempt is made and after N-number of tries, it fails. Just my two cents from a "user perspective" after messing around with all the methods.
          Cheers.
PS I'd look further at the uploaded file sizes that get reported back...

FotoBit, thank you for the information!! Unfortunately, ftp is not a convenient option for me, but at least you appear to have a good explanation for why this is happening. There is obviously some kind of communication problem between the upload tools and the server they are trying to upload to. The specific problem appears to be file size checks.

I'm not sure if the file sizes are an issue. I've had retries with photos that are small, large and everywhere in between. Also, the "looping" is random - it rarely happens with the same photo twice.

Dmitri, can you PLEASE PLEASE forward this information to the appropriate person!! I think we've determined exactly where the problem is happening! :o)

Little off subject here sorry,,, But I am in Thailand at the moment and see that the About Me page has been changed and it does not show or have a place to select for the friends list and friends of list,,, like we had... '-( that was cool and a nice way to see the friends list in addition to the vertical friends list which you have to go thru pages to see all. What happened,,, can you bring it back??? Well,,, greetings from Bangkok... GaryGS1

I agree. Here is what I put in into the Jan. 30 blog:

      1. The "I am here for..." section sucks and has nothing to do with photography.

      2. The hometown and birthplace sections are totally inadequate. There must be a provision for adding information, like town names. Several of the towns where I have lived, or are now living do not come up on the pull-down menus.

      3. The "Interests" section does not contain anything carried forward from the old version.

      4. The "Lifestyle..." section is so off-topic and offensive, that it makes me think that Fotki may have been hacked.

In general, this feature should have been put into a beta test before going live. Until then, go back to previous set-up.

Since when is Fotki a "photography" site? Fotki is a place for sharing photos. Not all of us here are (or are trying to be) photographers.

I agree about the hometown and birthplace sections. I was born in Peru and the capital city, Lima, is not even there. What is strange is that many small towns in Peru that I have never even heard of are!
