Users: Fotki.com Latest Release Rocks
Fotki.com released a new version of the site. Its new global "Search" and "Links" sections, as well as the completely customizable top navigation bar were developed with improved usability in mind. Before the release, Fotki opened its test server to Fotki users to let them review and test new additions for two weeks. The innovations were highly appreciated by Fotki members.
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 6, 2006 -- Fotki Inc., the company behind the Fotki media social network, released a new version of the site. Its new global "Search" and "Links" sections, as well as the completely customizable top navigation bar were created with improved usability in mind. Before the release, Fotki opened its test server to all Fotki users to let them review and test new additions for two weeks. The innovations were highly appreciated by Fotki members.
Fotki completely redesigned its top navigation bar. Now users easily rearrange its view and bar items the way they want: changing the order of top navigation items, as well as selecting the items they want to be included. The convenient pop-up menu of the "Go to" item lists all the navigation choices available.
The top and bottom bars' colors, as well as the colors of all top bar elements and of most of the Fotki account sections change according to a user's color scheme selection. Now users' pages have a more consistent look and feel.
New additions include: global photo search by tags and "Links" features. A local search by tags from the "My Photo Tags" page is linked to the global photo search. This makes possible a new search for photos marked with the same tag all over Fotki from the "My Photo Tags" page.
Links saved by a user in his "My Links" section can also be tagged to enable quick and targeted searches. All links saved by Fotki members in their "My Links" sections are visible on the global "Links" page.
Among the updated sections are the easy-to-use photo tagging and new slideshow with three options added: convenient thumbnails, gradient background color, and the unique "Invite a friend" feature. The feature empowers album owners to send invitations via any instant messenger, email, Skype, etc. Now Fotki members have the ability to view slideshows together with their friends.
The innovations were highly appreciated by Fotki members in the Fotki Blog: "You continuously amaze me with site improvements", writes Pasha Patriki (Canada). "I am especially grateful for the approach, that you offer a testing of the new features before running them instead of applying them immediately and cause commotion!", thanks Fotki loyal member Napomo from Belgium. To sum up, Enigma Photography Prints exclaims: "Ladies and gentlemen, the new toolbar rocks! ...I'm in Taiwan, and I assume search feature will be returning with more users."
This update came just after Fotki photo collection had reached 100,000,000 of unique shots uploaded to the site by its more than 800,000 Fotki members during Fotki's eight-year history.

Fotki Inc. Puts Forward a Cool Ability to Browse Photo Albums with FotkiMaps and Browse Earth with Fotki Albums
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 26, 2005 -- Fotki.com, a media social network specializing in photo sharing has also become a geoweb by having announced a new era in geotagging and browsing photo albums. Geocoded albums are all present on the FotkiMaps powered by Google Maps. Now it is possible to literally travel around the Earth with Fotki albums.
Having started with photo-session location feature allowing incorporating location-based references into albums and photos, Fotki quickly came to the idea of integrating geotagged albums on a large interactive map. A nifty tool, FotkiMaps, was developed due to the power of Google's publicly available Maps API and has become the most fun means to digest the entire photo collection. All albums stored by location are seen as a picturesque network of photographer's travels allowing a viewer to experience as if following them: albums' placemarks are located on aerial and satellite images and combined with FotkiMaps with a click.
One can just find on the map the place where photos were taken and click on it to link an album to latitude and longitude on the Earth. On the FotkiMaps, a geotag stands for the album or the entire list of albums connected with this tag. Albums' owner can easily handle and manage any number of geotags through a unified Location Manager.
Everybody visiting online albums on Fotki can click a map button to open FotkiMaps and to view albums seamlessly integrated with scrollable and zoomable Google Maps. Geocoding, Geolocation, Geotagging and Geoblogging becoming common notions for a digital photographer and making much sense for him add plenty of advantages to photo sharing and media social networking.
People travel quite a lot and have many shots that are grouped into "road trip"- or "travel-route"-type albums - albums that are not taken at any one location but spread out over sometimes hundreds of miles. Same goes with subject-type albums: say, an album may contain photos of waterfalls or monuments taken all over a country. It is really great to have each album individually labeled with theme geotags and to see them all exposed on the map.
"We are really excited about this cool new Fotki capability," says Dmitri Don, President of Fotki. "The new feature makes Fotki a better tool for anyone who travels a lot, for the kind of people that we are proud to call our users: worldly, social, active people whose oyster is the whole world, so to say! We are always working to make sure that Fotki is the best place for such awesome people!"
To see FotkiMaps in their best, welcome to fotki.com:
- FotkiMap of GaryGS1, Gary G. Schempp from New Jersey, who created “Santorini Road Pix” and “Turkey Road Pix 2” albums while traveling around Europe.
- FotkiMap of Jerry Dougherty from Windsor Locks, Connecticut, who geotagged albums taken at CT.
- FotkiMap of Raphael Pungin from New York, who presented two galleries of Russia albums.
- FotkiMap of Todd Medley from Redmond, WA, who collected a picturesque series of albums united under "Falls and trail" theme whose geotags are located along the road

Moreover, all free members are given a chance to become more active by using an option of obtaining a 10-MB additional space every 30 days that totals to 120 MB annually.
Simultaneously, their email space becomes 25 times larger. And more: to make everybody's Fotki experience more pleasant and fruitful, all its members are given an ability to keep blogs on Fotki. Indeed, great pieces of news for Free Fotki members; and that's the beginning only for Fotki growth makes it possible to widen the usage of the existing features and develop new, more advanced ones.
Members privacy being an important priority for the majority of Fotki users, Photo Comments section was in the spotlight of Fotki development team last week. The result is a new feature giving photos' owner an option to log the IP address of any visitor adding comments to his/her photos. If saving IP address is enabled, an IP-logging notification will be placed beneath the comment form.
In the Photo Albums section, the album header obtained a perfect look and became fully customized: one can view it either in full or in compact view. Java-applet uploader was bettered due to a function of restoring a failed upload added. Now, if a user interrupts, casually or deliberately, an upload process by closing the browser or moving to a different page, next time the user opens the uploader, he will be offered to complete the previous upload starting from the point at which the process was interrupted.
Another update is made in the Ordering Prints section: its new cropping preview is as slick as a whistle. Nothing superfluous, while all that is needed is extremely handy: quick start and fluent run with all mainstream platforms and in all browsers on the one hand, and pictorial rendition of which parts of photo will be cut off, on the other hand. To better see the difference in various print formats, switch between the two lists, a complete one and that of the chosen print sizes is enabled. Print formats are listed in the preview window as photos' thumbnails with cut-off areas clearly marked. Next to a thumbnail, loss percentage and print quality are indicated. Clicking on each thumbnail enables the respective full-size photo's cropping preview with printable area framed and cut-off areas shadowed.

Fotki Releases a Global Update and Announces a Special Price Offer
NEW YORK, NY — September 17, 2005 — Fotki. Inc., a company behind a popular online photo-sharing web portal, Fotki.com, has recently released a global site update that includes many rebuilt sections, modernized existing features, and up-to-date RSS news feed and GPS-related features. Just after the update, Fotki has announced a special fall offer for newcomers and free account users. A weeklong bid makes it possible buying a first-year full membership for only $35 thus saving 30% of the regular price.
The huge update is a result of a half-a-year creative work of Fotki R&D team. Among the updated sections is the Photo Albums section: new album layout and navigation created, and other new features introduced. Another update is made in the Links section: link adding using a bookmarklet (a small JavaScript program stored as a URL within a bookmark) and introduced, link tagging and link search by tags. New addition awaits our users in the Address Book section where the dynamic contact details and contact tagging are introduced. Fotki also offers: new layout and more convenient posting-comment options in the Photo Comments section.
Adjusting its services for today’s digital lifestyle, Fotki has implemented modern features like convenient RSS news feed, and cool album photo session location feature.
With RSS news feed option, any Fotki visitor can now subscribe to the feeds from any Fotki members’ What’s New pages he wants to get updates on and the feed will be coming in due time. Photo session location feature makes creating and viewing albums more exciting. It allows finding the spot where photos were taken on a variety of web maps: Google Earth, MSN Virtual Earth, Mapquest, NASA World Wind, and Google Maps, when viewing albums. Geographic coordinates indicating a locality where all of this album's photos were taken are added manually in the "Album Properties" form. For each photo, precise geographic coordinates indicating an exact place where it was taken can be added either manually or automatically: Fotki users, whose digital cameras are equipped with build-in GPS receivers or external GPS devices, will have the GPS info of the uploaded photos automatically read and added to photo’s data.
With new icons, headers and avatars, and user-oriented environment, Fotki web site has got fresh look and feel and became an even greater place to post and manage pictures for photo amateurs, while Fotki’s diverse feature and tool advantages attract professional photographers to this e-commerce area.

Fotki Slashed Prices on Online Photo Printing and Introduced Larger Printing Formats
NEW YORK, NY — April 20, 2005 — Fotki. Inc., a company behind a popular online photo portal, Fotki.com, has just announced lower prices for online printing of digital-image copies in all formats available and added larger formats for customers’ convenience. Most popular sizes, 3.5" x 5", 4" x 6" and 4" x 5", are 15¢ per copy only, and largest size, 48" x 48", is $36.00 per copy only.
Comparing to Fotki’s print prices (15¢) for most common formats, as well as to number of formats (19) and the largest print size available (48" x 48"), most other top digital photo printing web portals provide their users less diverse choices.
Perfecting its services for today’s digital lifestyle, the Fotki is concentrated on developing online services, and grants printing to high-professional photo labs. At that, huge amounts of copies ordered every day allow considerable lowering bulk prices and maintaining flexible price policy that makes the Fotki popular among numerous users worldwide.
“Online photo space is growing as a giant snowball,” said Dmitri Don, Fotki’s CEO, “More and more photographers are turning digital and they will never look back. The online branch of photo business has only started maturing; and on such background our goal is providing the users with unlimited opportunities to conveniently and inexpensively order photo prints online.”
Fotki’s satisfied customers share Mr. Don’s opinion. “I have been using the Fotki Photo Printing Service quite a few times and have always been very pleased with the ordering and payment process, the rapid turn-around time to get the prints and, most importantly, the quality (not to mention the careful and secure packaging),” said Fotki’s community member GaryGS1. “Now with these prices there is no reason to order prints from anywhere else or to even print my own. With the cost of ink for my printer and high-quality glossy photo paper, I can't even do it myself for that price!”
