WTS
Okay, the braids came out a week early. This week I've mostly had my hair covered up under a plastic bag, moisturising, wearing a headscarf over it all. My hair is without a doubt stronger than it has been in like forever. I'm loving my natural hair for the first time in my life.
Will probably wear my TWA for 2-3 weeks then braid or twist. I'm loving planning for my hair, lol!
Oh, I've also had a bit of hair related drama, thanks to my DSS (darling step son), who had an infestation of lice at school. Read more if interested on my blog - http://jaxhair.blogspot.com/2008/03/head-lice-hell-noooo.html
Oh, and whilst browsing for a linseed/flaxseed tea recipe on the net last night, I came across flaxseed hairgel, which I promptly made for my hair, body and skin. Will try this out till the batch is finished as I made toooo much! Plan is to substitute aloe vera gel with this, see if it's as good as or better than or same as aloe. Main determining factor for the change - expense. I won't use cheap preservative and synthetic chemical laden aloe vera. Hence, what I seem to get is pretty expensive and I go through it so fast. The flaxseed gel may well be a godsend... Will report back on this one! Link - http://jaxhair.blogspot.com/2008/03/flaxseed-linseed-hairgel-homemade.html
Hoping somebody may help... Read a handful of fotkis and seems peeps mix their conditioners with other stuff to good effect (glycerine, oil...). Advantages also would include making that costly, good quality conditioner last longer than it would if used neat. I'm dying to wash my hair this evening and will use neat conditioner - or maybe make a solution of conditioner & glycerine & water - but if anyone can direct me to the right mixture I'd appreciate greatly. Can't find these co-mixing co-washing fotkis at the moment as I don't remember which ones they are. Actually, might browse a couple more, see what I find...
Please drop me a comment if you've any suggestions. Thanks in advance, lol!

-Moisturises and fortifies hair shafts
(Aloe Vera, Avocado oil and Sunflower oil)
-Excellent as a ‘leave-in’ conditioner
(Aloe Vera, Olive oil and Sunflower oil)
-Pleasant, calming aroma

Directions for use:**
Shampoo and towel-dry hair. Work a tiny amount of the gel into your hair from the roots to the ends using fingers or comb. Style as usual.
Ingredients:
*Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera), Glyceryl polyacerylate (gel base derived from plant material, Triticum vulgare (wheat germ oil), *Persea gratissima (avocado oil), Panthenol (vitamin B5), Faex (vitamin B), *Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary oil), *Lavandula angustifolia (lavender oil), *Olea europaea (olive oil), *Helianthus annuus (sunflower oil), Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic acid and Dehydroacetic acid (preservative system), Linalool, d-Limonene, *Geranoil (from essential oils). *Organically grown
*The hold with this product is superb, but hair remains soft and bouncy. Great for curl definition too - which ironically is exactly what I didn't want then as there was alot of shrinkage. What did I expect? I've afro hair for heaven's sake, why did I want it straight? Thank God I know better now and I'm embracing all things afro hair with my whole being.
** My hairdresser just drenched the partings before twisting.
My hairdresser - Hawa, a very accomodating lady who thinks I'm bonkers as I bring my own products, lol. What will she say next time I see her and I've even more products (adding my moisturising spray to the bag), insisting on having hair pieces rinsed out before they touch my hair and insisting on amounts of hair pieces per parting being equal to and not more than the parting? Oh, and the fact I'll be insisting on looser twists and braids, lol. Yep, I'm loving this whole knowledge about my hair stuff!

***Products I use are chronicled below this post***
Okay, I'm wearing my hair in braids right now which I'll keep in till end of March if I can and if not, I'll take them off on the long Easter weekend 21-24 March. This is what I've done and will be doing when I have braids.....
-Pre-poo with my coconut oil/aloe mix, baggy whole head. *****Only problem I have with full head bagging is my scalp gets all wrinkled and grey when I take it down - kinda like how the skin gets grey and wrinkly when you're in water for a long time? Should learn to get past that I suppose as it looks normal in an hour? This I prefer to do on a Friday as no work Saturday!*****
-Shampoo once/week (Saturday) - Miessence Desert Flower shampoo (post pre-poo). *****Picked an idea from another Fotki today, so will be mixing shampoo with warm water in a bowl and sponge cleaning scalp with this solution then with what is left I'll gently squeeze extensions root to tip with solution till clean. This I think will keep the roots maintained for longer? Well, I'll give it a try and see.*****
-Co-wash 2x/week - Green People (GP) intensive repair conditioner. *****Co-wash post shampoo (Sat) will also involve a hot towel for 10 mins - deep conditioning? Simple co-wash will be on Tues PM/Weds AM before work if I'm organised, lol*****
-Daily morning saturation with my leave-in conditioner mixture - Water, glycerine, miessence protect B5 hair repair. I may add a few drops of oil - jojoba maybe - to this. Maybe a few drops of conditioner too? I need more info on adding conditioner to leave-ins, so ideas will be appreciated please peeps!
-Been applying coconut and aloe mix morning and evening as a sealant/moisturiser but maybe I need to seal with something, so......*****I'm changing the sealing mixture to castor oil (so thick and viscous!)and some other oil/oils added (to dilute the castor oil a little, make it easy to apply) - just need to find out what is best for maximum moisture seal. Any ideas are welcome please. Need all the help I can get!*****
-When I take the braids down, I may do a henna treatment or similar. I'll think/research about this more as time draws closer.
And what is funny, I miss my hair. Don't think I'll last till end of May - will take these down Easter weekend, definitely!
Have not figured out how to keep open for comments, so if anyone has any comments please leave in my guestbook!!

***** I bought this product when I abused my hair with heat, looking for a quick fix. Hair was natural, I wanted it straight but without chemicals and so I washed, blow dried +/- hot combing 1-2x/week! I'm suprised I still have hair on my head after all that, sigh! Needless to say, my hair condition didn't improve much - each strand must have had a split end, a knot or similar. And it was sooo dry! Anyway, the shampoo itself is very nice, I like it and will keep using till it's finished then I'll reconsider. Still need to decide when I'll use it in my new regimen though!*****
