| | NaturallyNiké's Journals Recent Comments 2/12/10 My hair seems to be thriving off Oil Rinses. My ends feel wonderful,my hair is soft, supple and very shiney!!
2/17/10 From this day on I will stop slacking on growth aids, I will mesaage megatek into my scalp everyother day...
3/7/10 Im about 2-3 inches from APL!!! Woot Woot!!
3/9/10 I tried DCing before oil rinsing and my hair loved it....I am also SOLD on steaming!!! So from now on its DC>Steam>Oil Rinse 1x a week.
3/21/10 Ive been thinking about cranking my DC's to 2x a week, but dont know if it will make sense to do during the warmer months..I figure I can alternate between a protein and moisturising DC to keep hair balanced...I guess I'll be able to fit this into my schedule.
3/25/10 Ok im think im going back to Oil Rinsing Before DC/Steaming...even though my hair has felt great from doing the opposite for the past 2 weeks, I remember the hair lasting even longer DC'ing w/ steam last.....But this time I think im going to skip the cowashing after oil rinsing and just apply the DC....
3/26/10 While in a rush I accidentaly came across a quick wash n go technique, that I will probably do alot during the warmer months.... While in the shower...after shampoo. and cowashing, I finger combed in my leave in and then finger combed in Eco Style Olive Oil gel into my sopping wet hair....I pull all of my hair back into a ponytail and banded it down a lil while wringing the excess water and product out, then I wrapped a t-shirt around my head (plopping) and the ponytail for it to dry a lil for about 30 mins, while doing my make up and such....took it down and my hair looked great!!! with no drippies, and it dried in a couple of hours.....
3/27/10 I didnt wrap my hair up to sleep last night, and when I woke up my hair was still very well defined but a lil shrunken up.....So to refresh my hair up , I sprayed it wet with warm water, them sprayed my spritz mix and banded it into one ponytail, and plopped with a t-shirt again....
3/28/10 I tried new products today...Hot Six Oil for my Oil Rinse... Lekair Cholestoral Plus DC, and Hawaiian Silky 14 n 1...
I did a baking soda treatment, and oil rinsed, instead of cowashing the oil out I applied the LCP, and steamed for 30 mins....My hair loved it!!...its to early to tell whether its as good as or better than Silicone mix , because my hair was feeling very good from the BS treatment....as for the hot six oil , I think I will definately use it for my oil rinses, with castor and alma oil added...The HS14n1 is ok, I dont think its as good as Passionfruit smoothie, but like the DC I mess with it for a while...
3/30/10 I got a turbie twist today , cant wait to try it!!....Im gonna try it for steaming on sunday, and if i like it, I'll buy two more...
4/1/10 The Hawaiian Silky, so far it seems ok, it works better on my hair dry...my hair is a lil greasy, but that could be from my heavy handedness with it or my shea butter...I still dont know if its as good as Passion Fruit Smoothie though, but my ends feel great....
Last night I made my daily spritz with Silicone Mix, and my hair really liked it...my braids were super shiny!!!
4/4/10 Did a rinse today, clarified with Suave Clarifying Shampoo , then mixed John Frieda Glaze in Clear, and Clairol Rinse in Jet Black , with my DC (Lekair Cholestarol)...
Hair felt a lil hard after rinsing out so I DC/Steamed with Lekair, and HH LTR, hair felt great and curls were so shiny and defined...my dense area's were even smooth...im lovin the Lekair!...I think im gonna keep using Silicon Mix in my spritz mixture...
Im also loving the Turban Twist and im definately gonna get more..
4/10/10 I havent prepoo'd in a while and im thinking about adding back into my regimem since I have spare oils to use. Its saturday night and tommorow is my wash day. I put lots of coconut oil on my dry hair, and castor oil on my edges. Im gonna leave it in overnight, until I wash tommorow.....
4/11/10 Ok , so its the next day and the coconut oil on my dry hair has left my hair mighty soft slippery...at first I was wondering if I was defeating the purpose of prepooing since I use a SLS free shampoo...but ive found a new technique, and benefit from it... I detangled on dry hair!!....it took some tme , but I lost way less hair than I do when detangling wet...I fingercombed, and used a wide tooth comb to remove the shed hair..then I braided my hair up in 6 sections, and proceeded to shampoo it that way...I undid each braid, and apply my hot six oil to oil rinse. When I washed the oil out, I immediately noticed great benefits from it, less shed hair in the tub,and overall less manipulation while washing, which means less breakage for me since my fine hair is in its weakest state (as for most people) ....the only con I can get from it is the time, it took about an hour for me to detangle dry, but that could of very well been because I kept taking lil breaks...but whether it takes time or not, you have to put in the time if you want beautiful and healthy hair...
On another note.... So ive been slacking on megatek again, for some reason I just cant find myself applying it to my scalp every other day w/o messing with the style I wearing, and I wash 1x a week. When I would apply my megatek mixture to my scalp it'd leave a white cast on my scalp my hair from the root , and get kind of hard, and that can be due to my hair being protein sensitive...So I did a lil research and apparently some people have the same issue...So one solution that caught my attention was to mix it with JBCO....my hair LOVES JBCO, and it does have wonderful benefits to hair when applied to the scalp, and maybe mixing it with MT will take away the white cast & hardening effect, and make it easier to spread...I usually put my MT mixture in a color applicator bottle, which made the application uneccessarily time consuming....Now im gonna put my mixture in a small jar so I can easily grease my scalp with my fingers and massage....I will be mixing Megatek with JBCO, and peppermint oil....
4/17/10 Its only been a week but I have been doing good with applying the MT to my scalp every other day.... the JBCO +MT+PO has been working out so much better for me...no hardness or white cast at the roots, my hair is left soft, and my scalp just drinks it up.....Hopefully im getting growh or thickness from this....
4/22/10 Week 2 of adding, prepooing, and dry detangling in to my weekly regimen. My hair feels great and im not loosing any uneccessary strands.
On another note, I think I found new wash n go products, and technique that is smashing every other product ive ever used!!!...Hawaiian Silky 14 n 1 & "Dry Look" Gel....Banding wet hair in one ponytail is great to... My hair has never felt so soft from a gel before, while my curls are shiney and super defined....
Last night after DC'ing, in sections to wet hair,I smoothed the 14n1 in and then the gel over it,after I finished applying product to my whole head, I re wet my hair with cold water, rub JBCO/EVOO , pulled hair back in one ponytail while squeezing excess product out.I banded the ponty tail, and plopped with a T-Shirt , leaving it on for about an hour. When I took it down my curls were soft defined , and shiny while stretched.
Since my hair was still wet, I decided to take it to another level to see if I can be on to something, I banded my hair back up and im plopping overnight..I cant wait to see how it comes out!!!
Update: hair came out extremely soft. It felt like I had no gel in my hair, and curle were pretty defined...but I don think I could plop overnight the front of my hair over stretched, and the base of the ponytail was still to wet...
4/25/10 Im still trying out different DC's I love Silicone Mix and Lekair, since ive ran out of both today I figure I'd give Elasta QP DPR-11+ a try...Ive heard so many raves about it, so I cant wait to see how it comes out.....
Ive been doing dry detangling on hair that was previously stretched out, but today was my first time tryna detagling my hair in its natural state (old wasn n go)....I prepooed hair with coconut oil , and had to spritz it with warm water and Tresemme FC conditioner which provided me w/ GREAT SLIP.It only took 25 mins to detagling my whole head today, and I didnt lose alot of hair at all...so maybe dry to damp detangling is best for my fine strands....
4/28/10 There is no verdict on the Elasta QP DPR yet, it worked pretty well, I noted my hait was alot more shiner than with the other DC, and it seem to penetrate, and define my "hard" spots better, but I dont think my hair was as soft...but ima give it one more go before I decide....
One another note...I found a perfect way for me to band hair w/o getting over stretched areas!!!!...After washing, I moisturized w/ passionfruit smoothie, sealed with JBCO/EVOO, then went over with Elasta QP OO & MB...I banded w/ 3 pony tails front to back "mohawk style"...and it dried over night..hair was strtched out equally in all areas and I had a cute stretched curly fro, w. lots of movement....so happy!!!...Today I will just twist my hair up....
5/3/10 Did a length check today, im an inch away from APL!!! woot woot!!!
I have decided that im not really feeling the Elasta QP DPR , it makes my hair kinda hair, and doesnt give me that baby softness SM or LC does.....
I did the 3 step M&S method with HB Olive Oil Creme for the first time...
I think its about time for a trim....
5/6/10 For some reason I think I measured wrong , well my brother measured wrong...I think I may already be APL!!! I have to find a way to get pics so I can see for myself.....
Lately ive been really thinking about bunning....I just might challenge myself to a month of bunning just to see how I can handle it...
5/9/10 The Lustrasilk Cholesterol sucked as a leave in but worked cool as a DC, and regular cowash. I dont think i'd buy it again though...
Killer combo for my hair!!: Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Conditioner>JBCO/EVOO>Elasta QP Mango butter.. My hair loves these prodcuts individually, but together its like sweet love!!!
5/15/10 I measured my hair with measring tape for the first time ever....my hair measured up to 8.5 -9 inches overall Im and 1 inch from APL MY APL is 4inches from BSL....
5/20/10 As of 5/18/10 im officially in a bun and vaseline challenge until 6/18/10
Vaseline as been great at sealing in moisture for me, but using it means I have to clarify more often...Hopefully Suave Clarifying shampoo would do a good job at removing it...
I'll be wearing my hair in a bun for three days straight...
My main products are... FOTE Aloe Vera Gel Hawaiian Silk 14n1 or Scurl Vaseline mixed with JBCO/EVOO Suave Clarifying Shampoo
6/4/10 I did a cowashed (w/GSAS and ACV rinse today and my hair from root to end feels great....so far the bunning had had my hair feeling great, but I wanna but the vaseline down for a while so I can cowash in the middle of the week....I am most definately dong ACV rinses 1-2 x's a week...
6/9/10 Im loving how my hair is feeling lately, the ACV & Crisco are definately two new found hair loves.... I already knew that my hair has low porosity, but I have realized that opening my cuticles for DC'ing can be enforced with baking soda rinses, so from now on once a week its BS rinse > DC > ACV
6/12/10 I DC'd with ORS, I wonder why I stopped using it, my hair seemed to love it!!...Perhaps I should start doing DC cocktails...
Something made me seal my hair with vaseline under my wash n go and it worked wonderfullly, now If only I could get my hands on unpetroleum jelly....
6/15/10 I did a length check today,OMG im basically APL already??...I cant believe I made it that quick. I just need to middle of my nape to grow a few centimeters....
6/26/10 So I tried Bentonite Clay for the first time today, I mixed it with water, ACV, and honey.....all I can say is, How Did I Ever Sleep On This Stuff??!!! It cleansed my hair, w/stripping, my curls were defined EVERYWHERE with hang!!...Ima give it one more try (next sunday) before adding this onto my regimen, it if goes good again, it will DEFINATELY replace baking soda washes....
I added about 20 sprays of Liquid Amino into my DC cocktail today, I dont think it will make much of a difference but i guess i'll have to see....
7/9/10 Well the verdict of the Bentonite is thats its definately replacing my baking soda washes,,im tryna firgure out if I should do it once a week or once every two weeks...
Since it has been so hot, ive been cowashing my hair more often (about 2-3times) during the week..So far my hair seems to be doing okay...Im loving Herbal Essences Conditioners more and more....
7/11/10 Im really feeling Bentonite Clay now, I cant believe im almost running out, I think its because I used to much the last time, next time I go to Bed Bath and Beyond im gonna buy two more jars.... I just bought a new jar of KCCC last night and im gonna try one of my wash n go techiques (braided roots or banding) tonight for tommorow....
UPDATE The KCCC left a really soft hold but I didnt get more than 2 days of hair like I do with eco style, I didnt even do the braided roots techinch just a wash n go, and banded in one ponytail...I still got alot of shrinkage with it....I think I will use ti for my setted styles, like braid n twist outs...
7/18/10 Its a wash day. and before I do I bentonite treatmeants, I prepoo with oil...well today I decided to DRENCH my hair with coconut oil and let it sit for about an hour... Once again, dry detangling did not failed me!! I honestly think my hair like its better. I lost way less hair (shed & breakage) than I do with wet detangling... I think its because my fine strands are stronger when they are dry as opposed to wet, contrary to general belief, plus the coconut oil gives me enough slip...
7/26/10 I decided that im going to go back to baking soda treatments...I love love love the bentonite treatments, but doing them once a week is making the jar go down really fast, and that can be a burn in my pockets lol especially sinc eI have to travel all the way to another borough to get it....So I figure I stretch the usage of both by using them biweekly, baking soda one weekend, then bentonite the next...
8/3/10 Today I did a bentonite treatment mixed with AVC+CocoOil+ Water. After rinsing it out, I cowashed with Aussie Moist conditioner....My hair felt great!!...I then braided my hair up with my rendition of Kimmaytubes leave in (used HH LTR leave in instead of KCKT)...so far my hair was feeling good but I cant wait to see how it feels when dry...
8/22/10 Since I havent been able to find my staple lo poo shampoo I gave in and bought Dr. Bronners Castile soap, and I must say I like it, I diluted it a lil the first time I use dit and it made my hait nice and slippery, when rinsed my hair didnt feel squeaky and and dry...today I mixed it with some vatika oil, giovanni 50/50, and water, it cleansed pretty well but didnt lather much like I expected....the next time I will try mixing it with aloe vera juice.... I think I found my staple DC mix!! It was super thick yet slippery, and my hair felt very moisturized after being rinsed...
I made the kimmaytube leave with cantu shea butter this time and my hair from root to tip feels great....I discovered that Aloe Vera Juice next to ACV really smooths my strands, I guess it because they have almost the same acidic PH balance...
I put my hair in twist tonight , and banded them, this will be my first time banding twist.....
9/18/10
So ive been bunned up for almost three weeks, and it wasnt even plannned, just sheer laziness lol....Im am in dire need of a clarifying and DC treatment, lawd know how much shed hair needs to be removed, and it will all be done TODAY!!! ...Im clarifying with a BS treatment, and DCing overnight...
Since the fall/winter is near I can no longer be lazy with my weekly regimen....
...and of course since its getting cold there will be a few changes to my weekly regimen....I will begin steaming, and oil rinsing again since I need my hair to retain as much moisture as possible...I will also be back to my stretching with twist/braid outs, and now rollersets!!!
9/25/10 Looks like I will be adding things to and rearranging my weekly regimen....
I'll be experimenting with henna ad cassia (maybe bi-weekly), and incorporating oil rinsing into my DC days....
Im gonna try DCing on dry hair, and oil rinsing afterward....I use to oil rinse then use my DC as my final rinse
When doing the henna I think I will (heard I will) definately have to DC afterwards....I even heard of DCing before a henna treament then oil rinsing
as long as I get to DC everyweek I know my hair will be fine...
I cant wait to see how my hair will benefit from the henna treatments...
9/26/10 So last night (sat morn) I cleansed my hair using the "kimmaytube shampoo buffering" technique
I prepoo'd with castor oil, and pinned hair up in four sections... One by one, I shampoo'd each section (EQP CCShamp), smoothing it in, and making sure to massage my scalp.... Instead of rinsing the shampoo out I squeezed the excess foam out, and slathered conditioner (HH Color me happy) on... Next I finger combed my hair, then proceeded to detangle with my goody shower comb UNDER THE STREAM OF WATER,while rinsing out the condish, (my hair detangles quicker that way) ,and clipped
it back up...
My hair actually felt great, it did not have that stripped feeling hair tends to get from shampoo...
I let my hair dry a tad bit in four sections, applied a generous amount of EVOO, split each section in half ,braided it up and left it to air dry for later in the day. I applied my DC mixture to my dry hair, which was stretched, and that aided in easy product distribution...I didnt even have to use loads of product...I left it in for about two hours since my dryer wasnt
working...
Dry DCing will definately be a keeper for this season, my curls were so popping after rinsing my hair out, while my strands were smooth from root to tip , while light and fluffy!! just like I like...
For styling I decided to do a half braid/half twist (braided roots ,twist ends)
I applied my leave in (V05 Passionfruit smoothie), sealed with EVOO/JBCO/Crisco....
I used Miss Jessies Curly pudding to set....
10/6/10 I just got my steamer today!....
I prepoo'd w/ Amla, and Vatika oil and sat under the steamer for 10 mins, my hair was dry and fro'd before, but when I finished steaming my hair was damp and hanging...When I washed my hair (oil rinse) my hair definately felt more heavy than usual.....
...If it comes out well, I may start steaming twice a week, 1x w/prepoo midweek, and the other with my DC on sundays....
10/18/10 Decided I will only steam once a week (on sundays), Dry detangling has always been best for my hair, so using my prepoo for that purpose seem to work best....
Today is the official first day of my vitamin routine I will take 5000mg of Biotin,780mg of MSM liquid (will double by week 2 if body responds well), and 1000mg of Vitamin C daily...im also increasing my water intake I must drink atleast four,16oz bottles of water a day, and this is great challenge for myself since I cant stand water lol
10/21/10 Ive been on lazy mode and I havent DC'd since my 1st henna, I really hope my hair dont punish me for this, im definately gonna steam today lol
10/24/10 My ends have been feeling great ever since I switched the condish in my modied kimmay leave in to AO HSR
I also need to get me huge jar of Miss Jessies Curly Meringue, it seems to be holding my hair up well, better than the Curly Pudding...
10/30/10 I just finished doing my first cassia treatment and I can say I am very pleased with the results...my strands are smoother, hair is shinier, and my curls are just popping...more importantly my ends feel good... I just applied my DC mix to my hair, using less scoops of my DC than usual, plus castor ,and argan oil, and honey, my hair took it very well....
11/3/10 Since my hair is braided, I took the opportunity to give myself a combo of a light dusting and S&D...my ends werent as bad as I thought they would be...
11/5/10
Ends are feeling great, hair is feeling nice and silky, I think im gonna TRY and keep up this protective styling thing, after next week im gonna try a bunned style...
12/1/10 Did a Cassia/Brahmi treatment today
6/16/11 So i've re-introduced two things to my hair routine....My homemade black soap shampoo, and the Goody Denman brush (modified)...
I don't know why I ever stopped using the black soap shampoo, it made my hair feel mad slippery, and cleansed without stripping...hopefully I can remember the ingredients, and make more...
As for the denman brush, I stopped using my real denman because I felt like it was pulling out my hair. It also started to loose "give", the bristles got mad flimsy n ish...So remembering how sturdy the goody version was, I got it and modified it...
I just detangled my hair under water with it after oil rinsing and it was a breeze!!!...better yet I was able to take a 25 min shower!!
I guess i'll be using these two things for my mid week washing...
My hair feels so silky and smooth from oil rinsing right now This mixture would include about: 2 oz of fenugreek seed powder (bought from www.amazon.com 3 oz of coconut oil or Vatika oil and mixed with about 4 cups of distilled water, let it come to a boil and allow to cool for a few minutes, strain, (I use a stocking cap for straining) Pour fenugreek mix over pre-oiled hair, put on a plastic cap for about 30 minutes with or without heat under a hooded dryer or simply wrap with a steamed towel. Deep condition hair like you normally would with a deep conditioner for 30 minutes to an hour and style as usual.
The fenugreek will give added strength, conditioning, softness, slip and shine to your hair. It is also known to speed up hair growth. The extra fenugreek liquid can be refrigerated for later use alone or mixed with other powders.
MY REVIEW OF THE FENUGREEK TEA RINSE
Wow my hair feels really really GREAT! Did I say SOFT & SILKY, and oh my goodness - MEGA SLIP. The comb simply slid effortlessly through my tresses after I washed it out. This is definitely an added staple of mine. Aggie | | |
