Thought I would use this journal to keep you all up to date on what is being posted in our wonderful albums. Rhemusaig's albums are used by the members of my main website www.countysutherland.co.uk
Many people ask me what is the website about - it is first and foremost a genealogical website specialising on the Families of County Sutherland, Scotland, UK.
Sutherland is in the very north of Scotland, the Highlands. Surrounded on three sides by sea it is a unique county - rugged, wild, beautiful and with fabulous sea shore. All members of my website and its accompanying mailing list have one thing in common, we all descend from Sutherland folks.
Members are spread all round the world. During the infamous 'Highland Clearances' Sutherland lost many of its inhabitants. They left for Canada, America, Australia, New Zealand and a few headed for South Africa. There are even Sutherlanders in South America. Many were amongst the first people to settle in the many new countries around the world. None appear to have forgotten their home in Scotland.
Now their descendants chat together, share histories together and publish photographs. All due to the wonderful hi-tech world we live in today. I often wonder what our great, great grandparents would make of our activities!!
More soon.
