The journey to transition

I knew about two years ago that i wanted to go back natural. It took a lot of guts and I did not make up my mind on my own. I've been relaxing my hair since I was 12 years old. When I turned 15 I stopped relaxing and went through my high school years recovering to a point of naturalness. When i went to college social pressure was a part of my decision to relax again and my thick curly beautiful hair was no more. I endured five years of weaves, wigs, good hair days when the product was heavily laden and bad ones when i struggled to keep my hair from breaking. In 2006 I had one relaxer followed by a small touch up in the summer of 2007. I decided that this would be my year so I put braids in. MICROBRAIDS!! Man they were cute but NOT good for my hair. When I took them out a this past weekend i had a large amount of new growth but the knots were unbelieveable. I washed my hair and it was like someone had locked it up. My husband and I had to cut it off! So today, February 05, 2007, I went to the salon and had a trustworthy hairdresser help me with the big chop.

So now starts my journey and I will be chronicling it for the next 12 months, maybe even longer. I cried when I cut my hair but I look back at my old natural pictures and I am fine.
