  • Hi Susi!!! Good going on your jounral here...

I'm glad to see that you got rid of the test journal,,, that really cleans the view up alot!!! I was going to mention it but figured I'd wait till you got the hang of things here... Well, seems like you did...

You'll be on the plane soon!!! Some of your hotels will probably have internet access,,, you may have to ask for it!!! It's not always conspicious!!! It takes less time to post an entry here than it does to check mail!!!

You may find it easier to let everyone know how it going right here (send the link to family and friends and add the link to your e-mail signature /// even your auto-response on the e-mail you use) and they can send you an e-mail IF they want too... that gets you off the hook...

    Anyway,,, good going... Gary

Hi Gary: I will be staying at the Divani Palace Acropolis in Athens and then each other stop it will be the Amalia. I've been told all have internet access so I can run in at the end of each day and maybe do some posting. I've got just a week before I leave and I haven't spent enough time yet getting things in order. I guess I've got this weekend and all of next week. Have to arrange the limo to the airport - its a CT. company so its' not really a "limo"....
Have to run - will be posting more of course.
      Have a great day.
      • That's great Susi... and a good idea to tell me that you posted a reply or new comment here as there is still no way of knowing unless one checks... and as the journal grows it gets more difficult to check all. Usually, what happens is that the last entry posted gets new comments (I found out) So don't post (or update) too fast when you are on the road!!! Every couple of days works well,,, gives people time to check in...

Yes,,, you are definately in the countdown stage... Try to have everything completely packed and set up 2 days before you are scheduled to leave (get ready as though that is your real deadline) then you will have the last two days to remember all the things that you didn't think off and still have time to do or pack them...

I'm excited for you,,, This is gonna be great!!!

PS,,, best (and cheapest way) to get money (Greece uses Euro's) is with an ATM card associated with your own checking account... Make sure you know you pin and test your card(s) at home before you go... (take 50 bucks out) And take some back up credit cards...(expensive to use for cash advances but good security) Make copies of all your travel documents (including the call collect number (not the 800 number - won't work overseas) on the back of all of your cards in case of loss or theft...

Geeezzz,,, sorry,,, I could go on and on and on... Cheer!!! Gary

Ohhhh,,, sorry '-) Make sure you have and WEAR a money belt!!! 10 bucks at AAA store or online.
I didn't mention this but I was pickpocketed second day in Istanbul!!! Joke was one them!!! Although they were very professional (I never felt them unzipper my pocket and steal my day wallet) all they got was my change purse, about 20 bucks for the day and a note with a smiley face saying "Don't spend it all in one Place" (my little joke for pickpockets...)

All my important stuff (passport, big money, place ticket, copies of documents, medical cards, etc,,, were in my tummy money belt that I wear at all times... Good luck... ok now i'm done??? Gary

This is from Kevin - I pasted it in from my guestbook - - -

    Hi Susi,
Thanks for your input on the black background.
When I was preparing for my trip to Utah I purchased a 1GB memory card "just in case". I also brought along the 256mb I had been using as well as an old 128mb. I wound up filling up all three and actually found myself using the last one sparingly. Of course I was shooting in an area where most nights our accommodations didn't have a TV, never mind a computer. There's nothing more frustrating for a photographer on vacation than not being able to photograph what they're seeing. So like the Boy Scouts say "Be Prepared"

Great that the weather is cooperating.

Those guards with the pleated skirts and some of the worlds most elite military. I am not sure of the spelling, but that unit is known as the Evsoni. You wouldn't want to fool around with them. The swords they carry are sharp enough for shaving. Did you notice their shoes with the curved toes?

Your assignment, now, agent 484, is to continue having fun and take great pictures.
    • Agent 484!!! That's funny Pierce,,,

Hi Susi!!! WOW,,, sounds great,,, you did alot so far,,, good for you,,, it's so exilirating (sp) to be in a foreign land,,, and travel,,, I am happy for you,,, Wasn't the Acropolis amazing,,, all lit up at night... Well, have fun oh Conn. One '-)

    Hello again guys:
Its after 9 pm here (7 hr difference from the east coast) and its beautiful. I did go up to the rooftop yesterday morning to take some shots of the Acropolis after I had breakfast. Then we toured the entire area for hours after that. What a view to look down over the city of Athens from up there.
Last night we had a dinner with custom dance arranged for us. I took pics you can be sure of.
I've actually had some already put to disc to keep safe but then again I've got tons more taken today (Monday).... Today we did a 3-island tour and the weather was unbelievable. Sunshine and calm seas...Bluest water I've ever seen and I don't mean green/blue...Deep blue!
I walked to the Parliament Bldg yesterday after the Parthenon to see the changing of the guards...the guys in the little white pleated skirts. Sundays are the only days they wear that uniform so I had to be there.
Poros, Hydrea and Aegina are gorgeous and I think I got some fabulous sunset shots over the water. Can't wait till I can unload them into the computer at home to share with all of you.
Putting them to disc is really a bit expensive so I probably won't be doing that too often.
Okay, its almost 9:30 and we're going to head out for some dinner and a walk. I can see the Parthenon (Acropolis) lit up from here. Beautiful but I really wouldn't want to walk the streets alone around here. A little different than what I expected. Dark little alley streets without much traffic.
Anyway, talk again in a few days...
    Hugs from Athens, Greece

      Hi Susi,
Glad to hear you are having a great time there in Greece! Did you do the Sirtaki yesterday?
And don't forget to try some nice cool Retsina wine and dolmas to go with it!
Looking forward to seeing your pictures!
Enjoy, take care and don't do anything I would not do! LOL

  • Susi!!! u-r there!!! Sounds, well, WONDERFULL!!!

Glad that you are finally in Greece,,, I know it was a long anxious wait for you,,, Now,,, remember not to blink!!! That's what you told me...

Your're probably getting ready for that meeting there at 7:30 PM (7 hours time difference) 6:30 Pm there / 11:30 Am here) And then have a nice dinner afterwards!!! You should be able to get some great "Acropolis" (means high city) night shots,,, make a friend and take a walk around after dinner!!! Make sure you go to Temple of Zues too right accross the street...

So glad you started your journal!!!
    Have fun,,, Gary
